Children that have Autism struggle to express what they feel. With this visual a child can show you even if they don't have the language to tell you. You want to make sure you are verbally labeling the emotions as they are expressing them. By using verbal prompts like, "looks like you are feeling angry."
This blog site has all different strategies that have worked for me depending on the child. I hope these can be helpful for parents and educators on this journey called Autism.

Responsibility: taking care of your pet
Have you ever heard of nano pets? Well these little devices have a virtual pet in them that you can attach to your backpack, pant loop or braclet. If you don't take care of your virtual pet the pet will disappear and you will need to start over. This is a great device to teach children with Autism how to be responsible and take care of their pets.

I'm Thinking About...
This work system can help children with Autism stay on task. Most children that have Autism seem to go into their own head and not know how to stop thinking about that movie or toy. With this work system you can draw what the task is inside the head to show them what they need to be thinking about.
Asking Questions
This work system is to help children with Autism ask questions in an appropriate matter. This is geared toward a school environment. So it gives the child steps to follow to ask a question.
Recess work system
Children with Autism struggle to play and communicate so this is a work system to help children choose an appropriate activity to play when out at recess or at the park.
1, 2, 3 FINISHED
You can use this work system for many different tasks that you need a child with Autism to finish. Because children who have Autism can be very picky on their food section. One way I use this work system is if I need them to take three bites of food they don't want to try or eat. When they take a bite of the food cross out the one then two and so on. They understand that if they take 3 bites they will be finished and not need to try anymore. Another way to use this is as a timer. If you want your child to brush there teeth longer then they prefer, then use then and cross out the one, two and three at your on pace.
I can earn...
Children that have Autism need a motive to listen, stay on task, or do work. So with this work system you can laminate it, use Velcro to Velcro their favorite objects. Such as; Lego, little toy butterflies, or pictures of happy faces. It really depends on what the child's interest is. Then use a dry ease marker to draw a picture of what the child whats to earn. Each time they listen or you see them doing what is expected give them 1 then 2 if they do another expected task. When they have earned all 5 objects or smiley faces they get the preferred reward. Remember rewards can be whatever they want, even if it seems silly.
Conversation Starters
Cut these out and laminate them to set in front of your student or children with Autism. This will help them visually have a topic to talk about with their peers.
What Hurts?
Most children who have Autism can't communicate what hurts on their body. So this visual helps children that might not have language or know how to communicate what is bothering their body.
How to Calm Down
This is a great visual for children who have Autism. It teaches them the process to help calm themselves down. We need to teach them that it's okay to get upset or mad, but we must guide our anger in an appropriate matter.
Super Flex
If you work with children who have Autism I highly recommend using super flex. Super flex is a superhero social thinking curriculum. It's a fun and motivating way to teach children social skills.
Tattling or Reporting
Children who have Autism don't know how to differentiate between tattling or reporting. So here is a work system to help them distinguish the difference between the two. We want children to report incidents not tattle not on their friends.
